Lorraine Massey: Devachan founder and co-owner
Lorraine Massey was born in Leichester, England, and started cutting hair in a local salon at age 13. "I went to the salon every day after school, and as often as I could on weekends. I couldn't get enough." At 16, she went to study with Martin Smith, the artistic director of Remi-Toni & Guy, and at 19, took her scissors and went traveling - to Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines - where she lived in a hut and cut hair on the beach. At 23, she came to New York, where she raised three children while establishing Devachan in Lower Manhattan, eventually teaming up with Denis DaSilva. Passionate about the cutting and caring of curly hair, Massey is the author of a hilarious how-to manifesto for the curly-haired, called "Curly Girl," (Workman Press, 2002)
Denis DaSilva: Devachan co-owner
Devachan's Brazilian-born co-owner was raised in the city of Sao Paulo and at the age of 13, he began cutting hair in his mother's salon. It was clear from the start that he was driven to become "world-class". He left Brazil at age 24 to study with the master hair stylists and colorists of Spain, France and England before coming to the States in the early nineties. He joined Devachan, partnering with Lorraine Massey in 1995. DaSilva is one of the
world's few hair professionals who is equally adept at cutting and coloring. His original hair painting technique, Pintura, an advanced highlighting procedure, is now being used in salons around the world. Pintura means "a work of art" in Portuguese. In addition, in 2006, DaSilva launched his most recent creation, the DevaSun Dryer and DevaFuser, the first new technology in diffusers in 60 years. With other developments in the pipeline, it has become very clear DaSilva will go down in history as one of the leaders who changed the industry.Shari Harbinger: Partner
Shari, a native New Yorker, is Devachan's acclaimed Hair Color Director. She began in sales with Clairol at the age of 23, which led to a successful teaching career. Later, she became a dynamic spokesperson for Schwarzkopf Inc, one of the worlds' leading hair color companies. In 1995, Harbinger joined both Denis DaSilva and Lorraine Massey at Devachan Salon where she trains and inspires both new and seasoned hairdressers. Her combined talent, passion and commitment to the industry has enabled her to start her own consulting company CHAIN-G REACTIONS, INC. where she travels the country providing in-salon training for salon owners and their staff in the latest hair color techniques, business strategies and communication skills.
