Cleansing
- How often should I No-Poo?
When changing over for the first time use the same routine as you would with a conventional Shampoo. Once the hydration level in your hair improves continue cleansing with No-Poo once or twice a week. We suggest wetting your hair and conditioning everyday until the desired hydration level is achieved.
- What is the difference between No-Poo and Low-Poo?
No-Poo is a zero lather conditioning cleanser specifically designed for dehydrated hair and scalp. It can also be used as a daily cleanser for normal hair and scalp. Low-Poo on the other hand is our low lather coconut derived cleanser designed for normal to oily scalp.
- Why does my hair still feel dirty after I cleanse with these products?
Don’t confuse your hair’s natural moisture with feeling dirty or greasy. We are accustomed to detergent based shampoos from an early age and have believed that a “good” shampoo is one that lathers to a squeaky clean feel. Therefore the feeling of dry scalp and hair is all that we know. While conventional shampoos rely on synthetic detergents that deprive the hair of moisture, the Deva product line offers an alternative method of cleansing and conditioning using botanically derived ingredients that leave your hair and scalp hydrated….the way it should always feel.
- What is the difference between DevaCare and DevaCurl?
While both lines are botanically infused and share the same concept, DevaCare is infused with Vitamin C and orange peel wax. This will prevent color fading and oxidation for the most dehydrated, blow-fried, color treated natural and chemically processed hair.
- What is the difference between DevaColor and DevaCurl?
While both lines are sulfate free and botanically infused, DevaColor contains balancing pigments for natural, color treated and chemically processed hair.
- Will the DevaColor line alter my existing color?
DevaColor will not change your existing color if you alternate with DevaCurl or DevaCare every other time you cleanse and condition. Should you decide to use it repeatedly you will slightly shift your existing tone.
- Can I detangle my hair with a comb in the shower?
The fingers are the gentlest way to detangle and hydrate the hair without causing breakage or disturbing the curl formation. Remember, your hands came before the comb was ever invented.
- Can I leave the one Condition in my hair?
Yes you may. Should you decide to use the B’Leave-In moisture supplement, we recommend rinsing out the One Condition completely as it may weigh down your curls.
- What is the difference between the One Condition and B’Leave-In?
One Condition is an ultra creamy, super rich conditioner drenched with botanicals that help hydrate hair from the inside out. The hair absorbs what it needs and releases what it doesn’t when rinsed. B’Leave-In on the other hand, was designed to be left in the hair. This clear Glycerin based moisture supplement with enriching proteins will deliver additional moisture, vitality and brilliance preparing the hair for the setting and styling process.
- Why is the B’Leave-In clear?
Hair, especially curly hair doesn’t have a much light reflection so logics has it that clear products gives our hair a chance to shine more. Example: clear salvage on wood grain.
Setting the hair
- What is the difference between towel drying or using a paper towel or cotton t-shirt?
Towels are too absorbent for gentle fabric like hair. They cause friction and tend to leave knots. A paper towel or t-shirt will provide a flatter and smoother surface absorbing just enough water to allow the styling products to set the curls and keep them intact.
- How do I use B’Leave-In?
After thoroughly rinsing out One Condition apply B’Leave-In moisture supplement by evenly distributing a generous amount to hair.
- * For tight and dehydrated curls, apply B’Leave-In in both hands in and in an upward scrunching motion distribute the product evenly. If you desire a looser curl then apply B’Leave-In by running your fingers through the hair in a downward motion.
- * For wavy hair, apply B’Leave-In in both hands in and in an upward scrunching motion distribute the product evenly.
- * For Straight hair apply B’Leave-In by running your fingers through the hair in a downward motion before blow-drying.
- What is the Angell’s function?
Angell is a clear, light weight, moisturizing and defining gel. It crystallizes the wet curl formation until it dries protecting them from outside interferences such as wind which can cause friction & frizz when agitated.
- How do I set my curls?
After removing excess water from hair by scrunching gently in an upward springing motion with a t-shirt or paper towel then it’s time to seal your wet curls with the Angell.
Using Angell is a very important step as it provides additional moisture while defining the curls. Product usage is determined by hair thickness, length and your dehydration level. Evenly distribute a palm-full of Angell between both hands. Tilt head forward, scrunch hair, using an upward spring motion toward the scalp to cultivate curls. Allow curls to dry naturally or diffuse dry. Remember, we recommend using more than less product as most hair requires the extra moisture and curl definition that Angell delivers.
- * If wearing your hair straight we recommend dispersing Angell to wet ends before blow-drying for extra manageability and a smoother finish.
- Will the Angell leave my hair hard?
Yes. Initially the hair should dry to a hardened crystallized cast. Once the hair has been scrunched, the cast will dissolve leaving your curls feeling soft, bouncy and enlivened. The more you scrunch the more volume and curl expansion you will create.
The less you scrunch (just enough to dissolve the cast) the more defined and less volume your curls will have.
- Can I use a diffuser to set and dry my curls?
You can use a diffuser as long as you don’t touch the hair while it’s drying. Touching the hair before the Angell crystallizes will defeat the purpose of curl definition and perhaps create unwanted frizz.
- How do I give my roots more lift?
After applying the Angell insert DevaClips close to the scalp around the crown of your head to create a lift. Once the Angell dries remove the DevaClips and shake out curls by inserting your fingers through your scalp and shaking out the roots.
- What is Set it Free and when should I use it?
Set it free is a 24-48 hour moisture lock spray-on made of bees wax and olive oil. It provides additional frizz control, moisture, body and curl definition.
- * If wearing your hair straight, we recommend spraying Set it Free on a wet scalp before blow-drying for extra lift and volume.
- * On fine hair we do not recommend repeated usage throughout the day as too much product may cause the hair to feel heavy.
- What is Mister Right and how do I use it?
This lavender based tonic helps revitalize and refresh even the most delicate and tired hair. Simply tilt head forward then spray and scrunch gently in an upward spring motion toward the scalp. Use daily if needed. Mister-Right will not leave your curls hard.
- Why do I have Dandruff?
Dandruff may appear for a number of reasons. Your scalp might be experiencing a change of weather. Metabolic changes in certain white blood cells cause them to leave the blood circulation and to move into the skin leading to an inflammatory reaction. The skin then tries to fight this invasion of cells which leads to an increase in skin cells with subsequent thickening of the skin (epidermal hypertrophy) and premature dying of superficially located cells. This creates 'dandruff', or the flaking of the skin tissue which is not yet separated from the underlying cell layers. Trying to remove the 'dandruff' gives rise to the classic sign of bleeding.
